Winds of Change for Energy Needs | Irish Examiner | Monday, May 18, 2009
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind..." so sang Bob Dylan, an album released in May, 1963. Blowin' in the wind was a song much loved by my generation. After all the hot air spouted about wind power in recent years, the announcement from 'Spirit of Ireland' during the week was a breath of fresh air. At last, here is an outfit which recognises that unless wind power is stored and made available at times of high demand, it is pretty useless on the grid. Using the wind for pumped storage and later generation to hydro power when needed is the answer. I wish their venture the very best of luck. Now if we can only persuade Eamon Ryan, aided and abetted by the ESB, from wasting billions of our money trying to put wind power directly onto the grid, we can start to make progress. ....
